Quote of the Day

A Pinterest find that rung true. The South: It's not a matter of birth, but more where your heart is.

SMU Dorm Checklist

I'm so excited for school, yet sooo nervous! SMU has been my number one choice since I could remember (I had no choice... I was going to SMU since my uncle made the fatal mistake of buying a 4 y/o me a Mustang cheerleading outfit).

I literally can't wait. But with all the stores sending out "Dorm Checklists" and "Remember this..." and "Remember that..."s, I'm going insane! I don't have any clue what I'll really need, and that's problematic considering I'm going to be 1,207 miles away from home!

But the best checklist I've seen so far is:

My Fave Fonts

Monogramming is serious business. Every article of clothing, every phone case, every car and computer decal must be monogrammed. But, one must always pick wisely. The classic circle monogram and diamond monogram look great on shorts and jackets:

Of course my favorite has to be the Master Circle Script or Victor. I'm a HUGE fan of curly, scripty fonts. So cute! (Not to mention the MCS font looks great on everything!)

Current Obsession: Baseball Caps

Ok y'all. I have an addiction to baseball caps. I mean, I have legit 20+ different ones I wear on a regular basis. But, to be honest, why wouldn't a busy girl like me want them? They keep the sun off your face, the hair out of your eyes, and give you that "put together, yet casual" look. They come in all kinds of colors, can be monogrammed (like the one I bought from Marley Lilly), and show your college spirit (like my pink SMU cap. Go Mustangs!)

Every Girl's Must Haves

There are some items in this world that just NEED to be in a girl's wardrobe. They aren't simply the typical "LBD, navy blazer, black heels" necessities, but rather the not so average pieces that stay classy, yet feel young. Not that anyone needs to immediately rush out to get them, but I do recommend collecting them over a period of time.

Southern Sweet Tea

Hey y'all! I couldn't help but stumble upon this easy sweet tea recipe when I was scouring Pinterest. I love, love, LOVE sweet tea. It is my favorite drink ever, yet people up North never make it. I don't know why that is, whether they're scared they'll screw it up... or they are just too lazy to make it. I don't know. But this recipe is SO easy that they'll have absolutely no excuse not to!
Southern Sweet Tea Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 Lipton Family Size Tea Bags
  • 4 Cups Boiling Hot Water
  • 2 Cups of Sugar
  • 12 Cups of Cold Water

Instructions
  1. Add Tea Bags to Water & Bring Water to a Boil in a Tea Kettle or Microwave.
  1. Pour Boiling Hot Water over the 2 Cups of Sugar and let sit around 30 min
  1. Add in 12 Cups of Cold Water to make 1 full Gallon
  1. Allow the Tea to Chill or Cool in the Refrigerator so that it doesn’t melt the ice.
  1. Serve over a tall glass of Ice on a Hot Summer Day!

Monogram Mania

So. I may or may not have gone crazy monogramming everything I own. The local embroidery shop (I like to support small businesses, too!) had a sale on monogramming. I kid you not, I went in with about nine items in my hand. Of course the store owners know me by name from frequenting their establishment all the time (when I don't end up originally purchasing the item from Marley Lilly) and the fact everyone knows everyone in a small town.

Anyway, literally I took my paycheck and gave it to them. Not even sorry, either. I can't wait to wear some of the items around! Pictures to come!

Monogram App

OH MY GOSH Y'ALL. I found the BEST app ever. The "Monogram" app for iPhone that lets you design custom monogrammed wallpapers. I literally did a happy dance upon finding it.

Sadly it does come at a price. It's $1.99 but completely worth it! I've only had it for about 5 hours and already went ham on it! You have a choice from a gallery of fantastic backgrounds (chevron, polka dots, anchors, etc.), or you can choose your own image (great for those Lilly lovers out there!) Then you get to pick the color and style of the font. It. Is. Perfect.

What a Steal!

I hit the sale of a LIFETIME at the local Village Palm (a Lilly Pulitzer trademarked store). O.M.G. I bought these pink seersucker shorts and this Vineyard Vines blouse for less than $60. Talk about a steal!!!! Then, I found Jacks on sale for $66 from Saks 5th Ave. I am so proud of myself. And they say I can't shop a deal...

Seriously y'all. I have a problem. Like a "Blair Waldorf-Season 1-Episode 5-Sneaking-Eric-Out-Of-Rehab" problem. (Kudos to you if you understood that joke!)
I'm addicted to Starbucks. I literally reload my card on my phone every week. It's scary. But, on a positive note, I'm almost to Gold status! Yay! With the fancy gold card!

Casual Class

Casual vs Classy

The choice to scrub or not to scrub... That is the question.

You can go with a monogrammed fleece (or 1/4 zip) and still look classy. There are many days I don't want to move, yet need to look semi presentable. OR, you wear the very appropriate and very cute cardie. They come in 100s of colors and you can never go wrong with one!

Then there is the norts vs chino shorts debate. Norts are extremely comfortable, cute, and come in more colors than known to man! But then, so do chino shorts (especially from J.Crew). There are so many possibilities!!!

Ok. Now on to shoes. Nike Free Runs vs Jacks. A hard debate. Both can be designed by the individual. Both are incredibly comfortable. Both look good with norts. But, one lends itself to a more sporty ego, while the other is more of a preppy staple.

Bows!

Bows!
Left: Folded
Middle: Pinwheel
Left: Cheerleader

Y'all. I am OBSESSED with hair bows. I make my own and it's the best thing since sliced bread (thank you Pinterest!) I cannot stress enough the importance of this accessory. They make or break the femininity of an outfit. They act to keep the hair out of the eyes. And let's be honest, they're cute as a button! There are so many kinds from pinwheel to cheerleader to the basic folded hair bow.

Beach Attire

Beachy

Melissa Odabash halter top / Swim suit, $24 / Dolce & Gabbana swim wear / Lilly Pulitzer , $97 / Lilly Pulitzer / Tory Burch wedge sandals / Havaianas , $36 / Lilly Pulitzer / Monogrammed hat

Ok y'all. I love, love, LOVE the beach. Growing up in Michigan, every summer my family would go to our cottage at Lake Michigan (which has one of the nicest beaches in the world). Seriously. I cannot wait to go back this summer.

A few essentials to survive a day of sand, sun, and sea are bandeau bikini (avoiding tan lines at ALL costs), a monogrammed floppy derby hat, some cute flip flops, and a study beach bag (to fit sunscreen, a novel, a iPod, drinks, etc.)

Dorm Pt. 1

So, I got my bedding for college! It's Pottery Barn black and white geometric comforter, with lime green sheets (and my hot pink monogram on everything obviously), a hot pink fleece, and a monogrammed throw pillow (pink and green)...

I'm back y'all

Hey everyone! So sorry I've been AWOL. I think I'm going to focus on this blog from now on. So, it's official! I'm an SMU Mustang! I leave cold and ever depressing Michigan in exactly 43 days. How crazy is that?! I can't wait. I love the South. I love southern living. I love the culture. I love Texas. I love Dallas. I love my school.

Anyway... I'm working full time at the pool. Not super exciting, but it's a job nonetheless. Funny enough, my paycheck has inadvertently had a percentage taken out of it for shopping (Lilly P has my soul. No joke). I have a problem. Lilly and monograms all the way. I just sent out about 6+ things to be monogrammed. Pictures to come.

My family from Chantilly came in town and we had a lunch date. It was lovely. Picture of me in my new (and soon to be monogrammed) derby hat, below.

 Love always,  Savannah
