NYE 2013

Adios 2013 and hello 2014! This is the year, I can feel it. All good things will come as we reminisce on the "days of old land syne". What better way to ring in the new year than glitter, fur, and glam!

Merry Christmas Y'all!

Merry Christmas y'all! I know I haven't blogged in over a week, but it's been really nice to spend quality time with my family and friends back home. Currently it's 21 degrees and snowing like the bejeezus out there, but I'm fine with that. (For now...) Most of my presents this year were given to me early, spread over a month and half's time.

Riding boots
Blonde highlights
Monogrammed scarf (also in brown)
Portable speakers (Rock Out)
Matty M leggings (in Navy – not charcoal above)

Almost Home

Hey y'all! The semester is wrapping up and everyone is going home. Tomorrow is my last final for first semester freshman year. My god, how time flies! It's crazy to think I'm going home tomorrow for the first time in a little  over 3 months. I have almost forgotten what my home looks like and what my mom's hugs feel like. However, I have not forgotten how bitterly cold it will be. Today, in Dallas, it's a high of 60 degrees, while Michigan has a high of about 28. Ew.

I'm actually kind of sad to leave. This semester literally flew by. I no longer feel like I'm away from home, but rather I'm leaving home for a month long vacation. Dallas is where I belong now and the thought of being away from it for so long almost pains me. But not as much as being away from my best friend, Lauren. Seriously I might not survive a month without her. Needless to say, Snapchat and iMessage will certainly be getting their usage over this month. So weird to think we rush when we get back, too. We talked about it for AGES and now it's almost here.

Songs: Finals Edition

I'm super stressed out and every once in a while I need a mental break. That's when I let myself listen to a couple songs to cool down and go back to studying. These are my current obsessions:

  • "Falling Slowly" - Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova
  • "How She Rolls" - Chase Rice
  • "Wake Me Up" - Ed Sheeran
  • "This" - Ed Sheeran
  • "Give Me Love" - Ed Sheeran
  • "Hold On, We're Going Home" - Drake
  • "Be Still" - The Fray
  • "Carolina" - Parmalee
  • "Little Lion Man" - Mumford And Sons
  • "Little Things" - One Direction (don't laugh; I really like this song!)

Ok y'all. Back to studying! Wish me luck!

Surviving Finals

One word. Two syllables. Six letters. A world of pain. Test taking is stressful. Like no joke. You start camping out at the library, at 3am because the building is open 24/7 and you can't bear the thought of losing your spot in the coveted cubicle on the top floor. Or maybe it's that third cup of coffee you've consumed in a 2 hour period that's causing this erratic behavior. But whatever it is, it makes final season what it is.
1) Remember: You do NOT have to look nice this week. No one is judging you. And the books you're pouring over aren't going to give you quizzical stares. So just do you. That means hair on top of head, giant t-shirt, leggings, huge tote, and running shoes. No one cares.
2) Wear comfortable shoes. When you're busy studying, your feet shouldn't be your main priority. And weather depending, you may be walking in the cold, at night for a half a mile. Be comfortable and smart. Especially if it's cold like it is here in Texas.

3) There are necessities to take to the library. In my case, I study on the top floor, which is made of windows. It's been mid-30s here this week. That means I was a "Savannah-sickle". No joke. But always remember to bring the basic fives to the library:
  1. Macbook or PC laptop
  2. Pens (I like pretty ones like from Jonathon Adler)
  3. A scarf. Nothing worse than a cold neck
  4. Glasses. Your eyes get REALLY tired.
  5. A watch. Always good to have an actual watch on you if your phone and computer dies. Trust me, that happens.

4) Bring something to drink. Need a "wake me up"? Coffee. Girl's best friend is Starbucks. Need hydration and alertness? Water. It perks you up and balances out the insane amount of coffee you probably just drank. Need a "calm me down"? Tea. Depending on the type it can be calming and caffeinated, or calming and soothing.

My Christmas

What girl doesn't like material things?! And what better time to express that attitude than at Christmas time. Not to sound materialistic, but I am. I love presents. I love things, especially new and shiny ones.

Holiday Must Have: Rese Tennis

So, I grew up on a tennis court because my daddy is professional tennis player. No, not like Rafael Nadal. He coaches now and teaches lessons in and around country clubs in our town. Regardless, when I'm home with him we like to go rally while talking about our recent lives. In that case, I have a very deep connection with tennis. Not to mention tennis wear is too cute! My friend Katherine turned me on to Rese – an athletic brand known for its tennis wear. Sooo cute. I'm obsessed, no joke!

Sooooo Sorry

Hey y'all! I got re-sick after posting almost half a month ago. And I mean, really sick. As in I was on two antibiotics, eye drops, allergy meds, sudafed, and a whole host of other meds. I was NOT ok and just didn't have the energy to balance the blog, school, and my health; so I took a little siesta. But I'm back now and healthy as ever! Finals, Christmas break, and rush are coming up quickly. As in next week are finals and I leave for Michigan in exactly two weeks now. SO EXCITED. And I officially rush in one month. I'm so nervous!

Anyway, these are some recent photos from the past few weeks because I've been super MIA!

Saving Steals

Oh my goodness y'all! What a crazy week! I got super sick on Sunday night and have been coughing up a lung for close to a week. I think I'm actually dying. JK. But really.

On a positive note, with all this major sickness, I got some excellent Netflix/online shopping/sleep/catch-up homework time. While all I wanted to do was workout, I couldn't. So, instead, I spent my week in bed, watching The Carrie Diaries (soooo good) while online shopping. My friend Corrie (such a sweet person, honestly love her) mentioned these websites to me earlier before I got super sick, so I had time to search through them.

I. Am. In. Love. They are boutique items for steals. Like it took restraint to not buy everything in sight.

Where do y'all get your deals?

4 "Go-To" Inspirational Songs

1) "Roar" - Katy Perry
One, who doesn't feel empowered by this song? Katy is such a powerhouse and she's honestly such an inspiration through her music. After listening to this song, you feel like you have the power to change the world by being a stronger version of yourself. Plus, the video of the kids at the Dartmouth Children's Hospital made this song absolutely adorable (Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock performs Katy Perry's Roar)

2) "Firework" - Katy Perry
Seriously, this song is an anthem for anyone who's ever felt out of place, felt like they're alone in this world, or are questioning who they are. And I know, what a cliche song, but it really is a beautiful testament to how short life is and how you have to live every single second of it comfortable in your own skin. We've all felt like there is something wrong with us as some point in our lives, and this song just gives hope that you are never alone. Plus, it's Katy Perry. She's awesome.

3) "Begin Again" - Taylor Swift
Don't laugh, but I really like this song. It's not like the first two in that it is about finding your own voice, but rather it gives hope that something good always comes after the storm. Everyone knows that when relationships end (especially the ones that felt like they were forever), there is this bottomless pit stuck inside your stomach and you feel like nothing will ever be the same. Knowing, eventually, there will be someone better to come sweep you off your feet is kinda comforting in a sappy, romantic way.

4) "Wake Me Up" - Avicii
This is literally my go to song of the year. It is a pump up song, a stress reliever and just an awesome song to spastically dance/jump to. There's just something relieving about having lyrical proof of life's unwinding journey and that through all the messes and complications, there is hope. Maybe I'm reading into this song too deeply. I don't know. But there's just something inspirational about knowing the journey that lies ahead of you is one unknown, but one that must be traveled.

What are y'alls "go-to" songs?
